Marian
Room
|
The
three most impressive paintings in this room are the work of Cristóbal
de Villalpando (ca. 1649–1714). They may have formed part
of a series about the life of Mary based on the apocryphal gospels.
The canvases were masterfully executed, and with the stylistic baroque
touch so characteristic of the artist: for example, the costumbrista
details, the difficult posture and the fabric’s color
and movement.
