Retables and Guadalupan Painting
|
This
space contains two eighteenth-century baroque retables, which display
the canvases and sculptures in what was likely their original arrangement,
unlike most works in this Museum—and in others—which
are placed out of context and unused in worship, making it difficult
for viewers to fully appreciate them from a historical and aesthetic
point of view.
Some
interesting variations on Guadalupan iconography, such as representations
of the taking of vows and the so-called “celestial workshops”
are also on display in this room. .
